What does all this diaper jargon mean, anyway?

cloth wipe - a fabric square, often of flannel or terry, that is used instead of a disposable wipe. We have provided a cloth wipe formula recipe, or plain water with a tiny amount of mild soap may be used.

doubler - a diaper "strip" made up of many layers of fabric that is added to your prefold or fitted diaper to enhance the absorbency. Recommended for nighttime use and long car rides, or if your baby is a "heavy wetter".

DSQ - diaper service quality - this provides a level of distinction for the prefold diaper. A diaper that is DSQ is of superior thickness, absorbency, and durability - able to withstand the rigors of frequent washing and drying.

fitted diaper a diaper that has a series of snaps that allows for a wide range of adjustment and snug fit. More expensive than the prefolds, but very convenient.

Insert - a no-fold "diaper" that fits perfectly into a pocket diaper like the Fuzzi Bunz. These are fabulously easy and super absorbent!

Liner- a barrier between the baby's bottom and the actual diaper. The stay dry fleece liners wick the moisture(pee) away from the baby's skin and into the diaper. Highly recommended. We also carry flushable/biodegradeable liners that make big messes easy to clean, especially when you're on the go!

organic- fabric derived from plant material that is grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides

prefold - the most economical choice - a type of cloth diaper that begins flat, may be folded into thirds and placed into a diaper cover (without pins), or may be folded and pinned or secured with a Snappi fastener with a cover for a slightly slimmer and very secure fit.

4x6x4 - this series of numbers refers to the thickness of a prefold diaper. The 4's represent the 4 layers of fabric on the outer sections of the diaper, and the 6 represents the 6 layers of fabric on the inner section. When folded in thirds and placed in a diaper cover, this provides 14 layers of absorbency. Our chinese 4x6x4's are nice & thick and work as a great daytime diaper for "moderate wetters".

4x8x4 - this series of numbers refers to the thickness of a prefold diaper. The 4's represent the 4 layers of fabric on the outer sections of the diaper, and the 8 represents the number of fabric layers on the inner section of the diaper. When folded in thirds and placed in a diaper cover, this offers 16 layers of absorbency. The chinese 4x8x4's work well for "heavy wetters", nighttime, naps, & car rides.

unbleached - no chemical bleaching processes have been used. This does leave an initial waxy coating on the unwashed diaper. Therefore, it is important to wash your unbleached prefolds 3 or 4 times in hot water prior to use.
